5 ways you can change lives with Two Wheel View
When giving presentations about Two Wheel View, I'm often asked how people can contribute to our work or how they can get involved with our organization. Here are five ways to support us!
Donate a bike.
Bikes. So Many Bikes. With our ever-expanding Bike Club programs (19 this year!) and approximately 250 youth graduating this program every school year, we are in constant need of bikes, both those to be earned and those to use for learning. Our bikes come to us in a few different ways. Calgary Police Service and the Okotoks RCMP have been incredibly generous, donating bikes that aren't claimed after a period of time. Bikes also come in through generous donations from individuals who bring them to the Good Life Community Bike Shop for us. If a bike isn't suitable for our needs, we make sure it goes to a good home where it can be best used.
'We rise by lifting others.'~ Robert Ingersoll. Madeleine, our Program Director, has been working hard to reinvigorate our Volunteer Program, making it easier, more fun and even more meaningful to volunteer than ever. For example, when you come out to a Volunteer Mechanics Night, you not only help us build up the bikes that our Bike Club participants earn, you'll also build your mechanics skills through the tutorial segment of each session. We love an EARN and LEARN model here at TWV and while you learn, the kids earn those previously-loved bikes you've worked on! There are plenty of regular and one-time volunteer opportunities to get involved in, give Madeleine a shout for more information.
Like all organizations in our sector, we are always on the look out for funding to be able to build our dream of changing kids' lives from the seat of a bike. Rick likes to say that 'we do a LOT with a LITTLE' so donation dollars go a long way at TWV. The easiest way to donate is through our Canada Helps page or our Razoo page if you are in the US. We're a registered charity so you get a tax receipt for your donation. Consider donating to our 'Raise a Ride' Campaign, these funds will go to ensuring deserving students get the adventure of a lifetime on one of our TWV Trips! Thanks for your support!
Share our story.
One of the best ways to help out a small non-profit like ours is to spread the word, in-person and through your social media channels. We never know what the right introduction or conversation can do in for securing new financial support, bringing new kids into our programs or a new volunteer out to Volunteer Mechanics Nights. These conversations are so powerful and mean a lot to us.
Thanks to Sven S (Twitter), Michelle K & Julie F (Facebook) and Tara B (Instagram) for being big champions for our organization on those channels and to all those who spread the word through sharing their passion for TWV. If there is a part of the TWV story you'd like to know more about so we can share it on social media, on our blog or over a beer, let us know!
Attend Vehicle for Change.
One of my favourite events on our calendar is our annual Vehicle for Change fundraiser. Held the first Friday in May each year (May 5th, 2017), this live music pub night is a great time to celebrate and raise money for TWV! Our silent auction is always packed with awesome bikes and lots of other goodies! (I'm always on the hunt for amazing items so if you have any connections or donations, send me an email) Our local breweries spoil us with their best offerings and don't forget to buy a lucky balloon from our Balloon draw game, you are guaranteed to win a prize! Dance the night away with one of our amazing local bands. Tickets go on sale in February, don't miss it!
Thanks for all the ways you contribute to our vision of changing kids' lives from the seat of a bike!
