Student Bike Trips (download a trip brochure)

Imagine a powerful program that challenges students, cultivates their leadership skills, and exposes them to life-changing relationships and experiences. TWO WHEEL VIEW is exactly that. This bicycle-based program for high school students (ages 14+) allows them to foster cross-cultural understanding, connect with the natural environment, and actively participate in an uncommon international travel experience.

2012 expeditions include Canada, Argentina’s northwestern provinces of Salta and Tucuman and the Arctic Circle region of Norway. Students may apply on their own or as part of a larger school group (eight youth comprise a group).

ARGENTINA: July 16 – August 2, 2012 (Calgary, Canada departure)

Mention Salta to an Argentine, and the response is often the following: "Ah, Salta the Beautiful." That this northern province isn't better known to the rest of the world is an injustice. The road south from the province's eponymous capital to Cafayate boasts breathtaking scenery with cliffs of many hues shaped by water and wind. With the addition of tasty food and a rich musical tradition, the place should not be missed.

Students accepted to the program will be required to fundraise or pay a portion or the total cost of the program ranging from $500 to $3,600 depending on the student and the recruiting needs of TWO WHEEL VIEW. The total cost for the Argentina trip is $3,600.

NORWAY: June 10-26, 2012 (Minneapolis/St. Paul, USA departure)

Spend mid-summer in the Arctic Circle. It's an adventure of a lifetime that will be unforgettable. Lapland is not a country in itself, but a region of northern Europe. It is mostly in the Arctic Circle, northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and some of Russia. Lapland is the last big wilderness in Western Europe. High mountains, open plateaus, forests, rivers and waterfalls meet the cultural landscape of the Sami people, making this an outstanding place to visit.

Students accepted to the program will be required to fundraise or pay a portion or the total cost of the program ranging from $500 to $3,900 depending on the student and the recruiting needs of TWO WHEEL VIEW. The total cost of the Norway trip is $3,900.

CANADA Youth Exchanges Bike Trips: Alberta and Quebec

TWO WHEEL VIEW is partnering with the YMCA Youth Exchanges Canada Program to provide youth, ages 14 to 17, an opportunity to explore Canada, meet new friends, and get involved in community projects – from the seat of a bike. It’s a chance to discover new places and people, as well as a chance to share and discover your own community.

The Canada Youth Exchange Program involves two trips: (Students must participate on both trips)

  1. May 14-22, 2012: A travel experience for students from Calgary to visit Montreal and participate in community projects and local bike rides with students from Montreal.
  2. June 23-30, 2012: A local Calgary experience with the students from Montreal that will travel to Calgary and participate in community projects and a 5-day bike trip to Banff.

The cost of the Canada Youth Exchange Program is a $50 fee for each participant. In addition, the entire group will be required to fundraise a portion of the costs of the activities and local hosting expenses.

TWV will coordinate the fundraising plan for the group. Airfare and travel costs are paid for by the YMCA Youth Exchanges Canada Program.
