a Bike
The Green Cyclers and Earn-a-bike programs are a hands-on way to teach kids
basic mechanical and employment skills. Youth swap hours
of community repair to earn their own recycled bicycle.
This program builds confidence and teaches them life
long skills. Students ages 11 to 16 will learn bicycle
repair during scheduled sessions and drop-in hours, then
swap hours of community repair for their own recycled
cycle.
In this hands-on environment, students will explore a new world of learning outside
of school. They will give back to the community by repairing used bikes for others,
and accumulating credit hours at the same time. Adult mentors will provide
guidance, friendship, and a strong hand to loosen bolts.
For many of the students, this is the only way they can afford to get
a bike. Others spend their time keeping their own bike in repair.
