New Calgary Area Charity Takes Young People Off-Road to Change Lives

Calgary, AB - April 18, 2006 - Building on a successful charity bicycling program established in the USA, Calgary-based Rick McFerrin is launching a new charity effort called Two Wheel View - Calgary.

"I am extremely excited to set up a new program in Calgary," said Rick McFerrin, Founder and Director of Two Wheel View - Calgary. "Our program connects young people to the places we live through bicycle adventures. Calgary has great access to outdoor pursuits and a growing population of interested young people and potential sponsors that can take advantage of our program."

The Two Wheel View charity program was developed by Rick and Tanya McFerrin after a two-year bicycle adventure around the world. "Many young people today are at risk of making poor decisions that will negatively impact themselves, their families, and their communities. To reduce the potential impact, Two Wheel View uses the bicycle as a tool to re-direct youth toward healthy, environmentally positive, life changing experiences," states Rick.

Over the past five years, Two Wheel View - USA has coordinated over 100 events for 726 young people ages 12-19. Two Wheel View provides the bicycles, camping gear, and ride-leaders for bicycle adventure programs close to home and as far away as Argentina and the Arctic Circle of Norway. "Our extended mountain bike programs and service learning projects are increasingly popular with school and youth groups. Our overseas tours provide young people with a broader perspective on the world and a great sense of accomplishment. Participants return from their adventures feeling empowered, enriched and ready to create positive change in their own lives and the communities in which they live," said founder, Rick McFerrin.

As part of Two Wheel View - Calgary, Trips for Kids - National, a California based nonprofit, has offered its support to set up a chapter program called Trip for Kids - Calgary. Trips for Kids - Calgary will offer free mountain bike day trips and environmental education for participating youth groups and kids that would not otherwise have the opportunity. Each daylong trip teaches kids proper mountain bike safety, the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and that overcoming tough obstacles can be fun! The key to the program, according to McFerrin, is that kids will see first hand the benefits of environmental stewardship and the importance of one's own actions both on the trail and at home.

Two Wheel View provides young people with high-impact, life-changing opportunities through bicycle adventures. Two Wheel View is a charity organization and programs are supported through corporate sponsorship, individual donations and foundation grants. Visit www.twowheelview.org for more information.
