Laura Istead - Program and Volunteer Coordinator: Laura spent most of her youth moving around with her family across Western Canada and central Europe. One of her favourite memories of that time was when her grade 4 class went on a week-long cycling expedition in the Swiss Alps and overnighted in a castle, a cave, an army bunker and in a farmers field beneath the plum trees. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and a Master's of Environmental Education and Communications. Before working with Two Wheel View, she held a wide variety of jobs such as horse trainer, doggy daycare attendant, youth worker, environmental educator and lunch lady. Like the rest of the TWV team, Laura has been bitten by the travel bug with her most recent large adventure being a solo mission to Australia to work at a sanctuary for endangered wallabys. Laura lives in Calgary where she is heavily involved with Girl Guides of Canada and the Calgary Zoo. She looks forward to continuing her work with Two Wheel View and getting to see more of the world from the seat of a bike! |

Joel Woodhouse: (Argentina 2009) Calgary, AB. I grew up in Sunalta Community in the downtown SW of Calgary. I traveled down to Argentina in 2009 with TWV on an adult fundraiser trip. With the inspiration of Latin America still in my veins, I began full time study at Mount Royal University studying Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership. One aspect of my study is about testing one’s physical and mental abilities in an outdoor environment and how the combination of these events can really help positively develop an individual. I enthusiastically help out with the great things TWV is doing. |
